DEPARTMENT: Historic Preservation
Program: Natural & Historic Resources Advisory Committee (NHRAC)
The Natural & Historic Resources Advisory Committee is a volunteer committee representing all of the counties in the NEGRDC area. Its purpose is to promote public awareness of the region’s heritage and resources and encourage natural and cultural-resource management on a local, regional, and state level.

Local governments (i.e., county commission chairs) nominate committee members with at least two members, and no more than three members, from each county. The NEGRDC’s Board of Directors approves each nomination. Members consist of individuals who have demonstrated special interest, experience, or education in the preservation of natural and/or historic resources. They, more generally, serves as a point-of-contact for their community and the Preservation Planner in administering historic-preservation programs and services.

The Committee typically meets quarterly at the NEGRDC’s offices in Athens from 11:00am-12:00noon with “field trips” also scheduled during the year. Anyone interested in the NHRAC or for information regarding membership can contact the Preservation Planner bwalker@negrdc.org.
